HAWAI’I PREPARATORY ACADEMY
Walker Warner Architects has completed the design of a new art gallery for the Hawai’i Preparatory Academy (HPA) on the Big Island of Hawai’i. The Tennent Art Gallery will feature the permanent collection of works by renowned artist, Madge Tennent, who spent most of her career depicting native Hawaiians in colorful portraits. The collection will include 28 large oils from the 1930s and nearly 40 works on paper. The design of the gallery building draws inspiration from its agrarian context. Simple forms combine with a restrained material palette to create a backdrop to the vibrant artwork within. Fundraising efforts are currently underway. For more information about the Hawai’i Preparatory Academy or the Tennent Art Gallery, please visit www.hpa.edu.
